WILKES-BARRE — Sal Mantione, owner of Alpine Downtown Eatery on West Northampton Street, is looking forward to Restaurant Week in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
He plans to offer breakfast and lunch specials at Alpine Downtown Eatery, one of 22 restaurants participating in the event running Sept. 16 to 25.
“It’s a great opportunity for restaurants,” Mantione said. “It brings extra traffic into the area.”
The Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association and Diamond City Partnership are among the sponsors of Restaurant Week and all the menus with specials and additional information can be found at wbdcp.org.
Other restaurants participating include the recently reopened Bottlenecks Saloon and Eatery, Anthracite — Not Just a Newsstand, Barnes & Noble Wilkes King’s Cafe, Bart & Urby’s, Boscov’s, Cafe Toscana, Cheesesteak Factory, Dino’s Pizza, El Zocalo, Franklin’s, Frank’s Pizzeria and Ristorante, Hottle’s on South Main Street, King of Kings Gyro, Le Manhattan Bistro, Mimmo’s Pizza, Oyster, Oz’s Eatery, Pete’s Place Middle Eastern Restaurant, Pronto Via Pizzeria, Rodano’s and Senunas’ Bar & Grill.
John Maday, president of the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association, said the week allows restaurants in downtown Wilkes-Barre to showcase themselves.
“It is an opportunity for the public to come out and visit some of these restaurants,” Maday said. “They’re offering great deals on pricing and it’s an opportunity to see something different on the menus.”
Restaurant Week will kick off with the Third Friday Art Walk on Sept. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The association has been observing Restaurant Week for the last four years and it has become a popular trend across the country.
South Scranton’s first ever Restaurant Week is planned for Sept. 18-24.
United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Elm Street Project and Image and Identity Committee have been coordinating that event, which highlight the many different varieties of cuisine available in the neighborhood.
Participating restaurants include Bella Pizza and Pasta House, Chicano’s Restaurant, Don Pancho Villa, Hot Wok Chinese Restaurant, Italo’s Restaurant, La Trattoria, Vince the Pizza Prince, Sacco’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant, Zaleski’s Clubhouse Cafe, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe and La Libertad Pupuseria Y Restaurant.
