WILKES-BARRE — The Luzerne Foundation has moved to a new location on South River Street in the city, officials announced Tuesday.

“We are very delighted to return to downtown Wilkes-Barre,” foundation President and CEO Charles Barber said.

Previously located at 140 Main St. in Luzerne, the organization now operates from 34 S. River St. in the city.

“With the move we plan to be a more active participant in the downtown Wilkes-Barre community and the surrounding area,” Barber said.

“We liked our old location but our new location will better serve our staff, donors and non-profits we work with,” Barber said. “I think our state-of-the-art conference room is really nice.”

He envisions the conference room, which can hold up to 30 people, as a venue where the foundation and other nonprofits can hold conference calls, educational seminars and other events.

“I think one of the nice features is that it can be reconfigured for other purposes,” Barber said. “I believe that will really help out.”

The foundation purchased the building, parts of which are more than a century old, last July.

“We had to make changes and get the structure up to code,” Barber said.

Funds for its purchase and renovation did not use donor cash, “but we are always receptive to any donors that want to help out,” he added.
